Experience the magic of the annual sakura season "hanami" celebrations with a local insider
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Get off the beaten path and discover quieter sakura hotspots with your host, like Tondabayashi City and Expo Commemoration Park, hidden gems not often featured in guidebooks. Or, if you’re brave enough, fight your way through the frenzy at famous landmarks like Osaka Castle and the Osaka Mint, where hanami picnic spots are ridiculously tough to pin down, but the reward is an enviable photo!
Have your own hanami party featuring pink sakura mochi rice cakes stuffed full of sweet bean paste, and nibble on ichigo daifuku, a strawberry sweet that adds to the color of the countrywide festivities. Soak in the overwhelming significance of the celebrations, and learn how they coincide with fresh starts and new opportunities from your host.

This was my third time joining a tour organized by "City Unscripted," and once again, it did not disappoint. Upon arrival, I was greeted by my local guide - "Jonathan." Jonathan proved to be a well-prepared guide, adept at handling unforeseen situations calmly and composedly. He had a knack for explaining the intricacies of Japanese society understandably. Beyond the usual tourist spots, he also introduced us to hidden gems known mostly to locals – places that a foreign tourist might typically overlook. Touring with Jonathan allowed me to relax and fully enjoy the beautiful moments. It's experiences like these that make travel truly memorable.
Show moreMy son and I planned a trip to Osaka for "Hanami" --- celebrating the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival. We signed up in advance for a trip with Maria. She has lived in Japan for thirty years. We had no difficulty understanding her as her english was perfect. Our trip was very personalized --- just the two of us. First we toured Osaka Castle and saw the cherry trees that were there. Maria provided us the history of the castle. Towards the end of our tour we took the train to a local park to have a picnic lunch under the cherry trees. Maria recognized some good friends of hers at the park who invited us to join them. Her friends shared their lunch with us and we enjoyed their company. Maria was very nice and social and informative. We can pretty much guarantee that you will have a great experience if Maria is your tour guide.
Show moreShe was very accommodating and cinsiderate of our comfort during the tour. We have learned a lot about history especially about the first unifier. Our Ohanami experience was the best because she found the best spot and prepared our meal with care and to details. We love Maria ❤️
Show moreKieran is an awesome tour guide and an incredibly friendly person with a true passion for Japanese history and culture, especially Sakura in springtime. He designed a perfect tour exploring Osaka Castle park during Sakura season and also stopping at some of his favorite places for an impromptu food tour around the city. Kieran provided a perfect balance of detailed information, thoughtful answers to all of our many questions, as well as comfortable and casual chat throughout the day. I would highly recommend anyone to book a tour with Kieran — you will have an amazing time and enjoy a memorable adventure exploring Osaka together!

I really enjoyed the tour (that Korean fried chicken was incredible) and it was great learning more about your move to Japan and your experiences living and working in Kyoto and Osaka over the past five years. I wish you and your family all the best, and I hope you and your parents have a wonderful visit! Cheers, Owen
