Your journey kicks off at the Church of Saint Ildefonso, a stunning Baroque masterpiece adorned with intricate azulejos. Built in the early 18th century, this church is a must-see for any photography enthusiast. The contrast of the white and blue tiles against the vibrant Portuguese sky creates a perfect photo opportunity right from the start. I can't promise the church will be open when you arrive, but it’s still an epic photo spot—so don't forget to bring your camera and capture the magic!
Next, you’ll head to the Chapel of Souls, an iconic landmark famous for its mesmerizing blue-and-white tile facade. Capture the beauty of this chapel from every angle, and don’t miss the nearby Porto São Bento train station. Its interior is a visual feast with over 20,000 tiles depicting historical scenes—a photographer's paradise.
Your adventure continues at the Painel de Azulejos Joana Vasconcelos, a spectacular mural made up of 8000 hand-painted tiles. This modern masterpiece by Joana Vasconcelos offers a vibrant contrast to Porto’s traditional azulejos, perfect for adding variety to your photo collection. The bold colors and intricate designs are sure to make your Instagram feed pop.
At Igreja do Carmo, you’ll be wowed by the twin churches separated by one of the world’s narrowest houses. The stunning azulejo-covered facade is a sight to behold. And just around the corner, discover Livraria Lello, a stunning bookstore that’s a dream come true for any photographer. Its neo-Gothic architecture and ornate staircase have inspired countless artists and even J.K. Rowling herself.
The Bolsa Palace is next on your list, with its grand marble staircase, Hall of Nations, and the exquisite Arab Room. This hidden gem offers endless opportunities for capturing breathtaking interiors. The intricate details and lavish decorations will make you feel like you’ve stepped into a royal palace.
Take a break at Confeitaria São Domingos, where you can enjoy delicious Portuguese pastries and coffee while resting your legs. If you book on a Sunday, you’ll switch it up and chill at Jardim do Morro instead. The perfect hilltop oasis in Porto, where you'll find breathtaking panoramic views of the iconic Luis I Bridge and the Douro River.
Largo da Pena Ventosa, located in Porto's medieval quarter, is a small yet picturesque square filled with colorful houses, terraces, and cafes. This charming location provides a glimpse into local life away from the bustling tourist areas. The narrow cobblestone streets and vibrant facades are perfect for capturing the essence of Porto's historic charm.
For a panoramic view of the city and the Douro River, head to the Miradouro da Rua das Aldas. The undulating landscape of Porto ensures a stunning perspective from this scenic viewpoint. As the sun sets, the golden hour light casts a magical glow over the rooftops and river, creating the perfect backdrop for breathtaking photos.
At Porto Cathedral, perched on the highest point of the city, the esplanade, Terreiro da Sé, offers sweeping views of Porto's rooftops and monuments. Capture the grandeur of the Cathedral and the cityscape below. The majestic architecture and expansive views make this a must-visit spot for any photography lover. I can't guarantee the Cathedral will be open when you arrive, but trust me—the photos you'll snap there will be absolutely stunning!

She was very patient with us and respectful of our limitations due to our age. She was extremely helpful and kind. We enjoyed visiting with her and the tour was wonderful.
Show moreOur tour guide was amazing! She took us all around to places we have not seen before which was great. Definitely recommend to anyone! She also sent us places afterwards via text so we would have everything that she recommended to us. Great great day!
Show moreWe had a private 6 hour walking tour of Porto with our wonderful guide Mayinka. She showed us the “must see” areas of her city, explaining the history and cultural background as stopped to explore. We also explored different areas that were not touristy, but just as lovely.
Show moreMayinka, is a wonderful person!! She gave us an excellent 6 hour guided walking tour of Porto. We covered most of the “must see” areas of Porto, enjoying the history and culture. We were never in a rush, and enjoyed getting to know Mayinka and what she loves about Porto. She showed us some of her favourite areas which were pleasant surprises and unique which we would never have found on our own. Thank Mayinka for a wonderful and memorable day!

Show moreWe were very delighted with our 3 hour foodie tour. It was our first visit to Porto and our second time having a private tour with City Unscripted. Simon, our guide, touched base a week before meeting up and we told him what kinds of things we liked when visiting. He arrived at the hotel and he chose a wonderful selection of port tasting, desserts, fish dishes at the food market and authentic Portuguese cuisine dishes, such as deep fried sardines at the popular eateries where the locals go. We did this while exploring back streets, which is exactly what we asked for. Simon has travelled a lot and he provided so much insight into the Porto way of life. Simon was also very generous with his time...it was lovely to see the river front after sunset. We couldn't eat everything so Simon had us bring our tastings back to the hotel for us to enjoy the next day. Our leisure walk last an hour extra but Simon wanted to show us the train station, the river front, old streets and we enjoyed looking at the shops where they sell such a wide selection of items. I highly recommend this tour and we will be back to the lovely Porto city.
