What you’ll do

The intense history of Berlin can still be felt in the streets, and we all know that a city is more than a place, it’s a feeling. So get under the skin of East Berlin with one of our local Berlin hosts, weaving together its past history at profound landmarks like Tränenpalast and Checkpoint Charlie, and its more contemporary side in the street art and public spaces like the East Side Gallery.

Today, the area is known for its bohemian spirit and vibrant street culture, so get ready to discover the best of both worlds and see the real East Berlin.

You’ll explore the historic landmarks of this famous area, see where the Berlin Wall fell, as well as discovering some secret spots like local flea markets and independent book stores which have all contributed to the reshaping of an area once characterized only by the scars of WWII.

The neighborhoods are interesting enough to recommend the tour. But the particular guide I had (Betty) was in the top few percent of tour guides I have had around the world and in Germany. She is artsy, very knowledgable about history, art, politics, even science, and has lived in many diverse places, including the United States. Her English is beyond fluent and at the highest level of an educated native speaker. I recommend her first, for any tour, but also this particular tour with any guide.
