Hi there!
Discover more about meI’m Alex Before ending up in Japan, many years back, I had a nomad life across several Asian countries for many years as well. I spent most of that time in India, where among other activities I had my first experiences as a tour guide. There I also met my wife, and when the relationship got more serious we decided to settle down and have a more stable life, we chose Japan where she is from. Since then I had many personal experiences in this country in different fields such as human relations, jobs in different sectors, trips, bizarre situations, etc, experiences that I always like to share, together with some knowledge about aspects of the culture that I studied for years, just for the sake of getting knowledge without thinking that I would do this activity later on. By the way, I appreciate a lot the human factor, and besides having a responsibility I enjoy a lot just meeting and being with new people. In other words; I love this job, I love the culture I show, and I love human communication in itself. Let’s meet and spend time together so I can show you the best of this city, the cultural capital of Japan
Relaxed, personable, and deeply insightful, I blend cultural knowledge with real-life stories to create a friendly and meaningful experience that feels like exploring Kyoto with an old friend.

Show moreAlex was above and beyond an excellent guide and companion. He is gregarious, knowledgeable, a great guy. He showed us everything we wanted to see, gave great advice about local insights and good strategies for local getting around. One of us lost an item on a local bus after the tour. We called him and he and his wife found which lost and found the bus took it to and we recovered it next day. We could not have done that without their local knowledge and fluent Japanese. Service above and beyond! Strongly recommend this tour, start early, crowds are impressive!

Show moreHello, I'm Michael, and I would like to introduce myself and share with you why I live in Kyoto and love it so much.
Discover more about meMy journey began seven years ago when I took a break from my Italian restaurant in Houston, Texas, and traveled to Japan. Starting in Sendai and Matsushima, I went down to Miyajima and Hiroshima, and then I worked my way back to Tokyo. Along the way, I stopped in Kobe, Osaka, Nara, and Kyoto. After only two days and nights in Kyoto, I knew that this city was special. Once back in the USA, I made a plan for the next chapter of my life. Living in Japan! Moving and living here has been, and is so rewarding. The people are so kind, the country is amazingly beautiful and the food is absolutely delicious. During the first few years, I explored the countryside and traversed most of the city, worked as a rafting guide on the Setagawa River, and, up until last December, owned and operated one of only three Cajun establishments in all of Japan. My hobbies include surfing, scuba, camping, enjoying wines from across the globe, museums, the fine arts and obviously cooking. I hope you will allow me to spend a little time with you so I can show you what makes Kyoto one of a kind. Thank you
I love sharing Kyoto through its hidden corners, rich history, and incredible flavors, making you feel like you’re exploring with a friend.

Show moreWe had such an amazing day touring Kyoto with Tess! We booked the 8 hour walking tour starting at 8AM and Tess did a great job curating our experience to exactly what we were looking for. We went to the Fushimi Inari shrine, Yasaka Pagoda, Kiyomizu-dera temple, Golden Pavillion, the Arashiyama bamboo grove, and more. She did a great job managing our time and getting us from place to place in a seamless manner. She was also very attentive to our needs, always asking if we need water or the bathroom. She was a great photographer and knew all the good photo spots as well. Additionally she was very informed of the history. Tess did a great job giving us more recommendations for restaurants and places to go for the rest of our trip. She was so friendly and also hilarious. If you are lucky enough to be paired with her, you will most certainly have a perfect experience!
Show moreTess was knowledgeable, engaging and professional. She also met me at my hotel which I really appreciated.
