Nature lovers may choose to head 30 minutes out of central Kyoto to Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, where forest walks and a visit to Iwatayama Monkey Park are sure to keep the whole family entertained. Hungry? Your local insider will be happy to scope out the best family-friendly restaurants in the district – and decipher the kids’ menus. When it’s time for dessert, keep sweet teeth happy with Kyoto’s famous melonpan ice cream or funky-flavored shaved ice - why not try the bamboo?

Very much enjoyed our walking tour with Mia. Communication was amazing to check what places/ activities you wanted to visit and Mia was happy to make adjustments to suit the family with teens + 8 year old. We were able to learn more about the site's history and cultural practices than we could simply visiting places by ourselves. Very much appreciated Mia translating our kids New Year fortunes after the tour. Her advice was precious and encouragement to understand and participate in Japanese Shinto traditions.

I would recommend that she tells us more of history of kyoto and explain culture and food. She knows her stuff and just needs to explain.
