Forget all the clichés you’re secretly harboring about German food, and eat your way around Hamburg with one of our local Hamburg hosts who can’t wait to show you that their city’s cuisine is a world away from the sausages, schnitzels, sauerkraut you thought you were in for. In this maritime city, the name of the game is more water-sourced delicacies and all manner of potato delights.
You’ll food crawl (or roll, who are we to say how much you plan on eating) around the bohemian neighborhood of Sternschanze, trying all sorts of delights like franzbrötchen, a cinnamon-infused take on the French croissant, fischbrötchen, a roll filled with the salty North Sea pickled herring and pannfisch, fresh, herby fish in a light mustard sauce.
And like any food experience worth its salt, of course, there’s room for dessert (we’d recommend rote grütze, a red fruit pudding cooked from black and red currants, raspberries or cherries served with vanilla sauce) and time for a tipple like a beer overlooking the River Elbe.

Our host Aline was an excellent host to whom sparked us out of tiredness after a long flight and showed us a fantastic time walking around Hamburg. Aline was knowledgeable about Hamburg, showing us the local food and historic sites. Was very accommodating and flexible with the tour. It was my wife’s birthday to which, Aline gifted her a card and chocolate was really appreciated. My wife was over the moon with the thought. Aline was also a superb photographer. Thank you again Aline for your Sun dance to keep the rain away.
