Spend some time getting to know Munich's food scene in the heart of the Old Town, where your tastebuds will flit from Germany to Afghanistan
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Spend some time getting to know Munich's food scene - there's more to life than bratwurst and potatoes, you know (although we'll all admit that these are delicious). You'll follow one of our local Munich hosts as you weave your way through the heart of the Old Town, where your tastebuds will flit from Germany to Afghanistan - weren't expecting that, were you?
You'll feast on Bavarian dishes embedded in the city's culture like Weiss Wurst mit Brezel (white veal sausage, pretzel, and sweet mustard), Schweinebraten mit Knödel (slow, and we mean really slow-roasted pork shoulder and dumplings) and try street food classics at a market like Leberkässemmel - you'll have to join us to discover what this is!
Our hosts have always got the room for dessert, so you'll indulge in some Prinzregententorte, an eight-layered chocolate extravaganza at the iconic Café Luitpold. Along the way, you could sip some Bavarian brews - did you know people even drink beer at breakfast here? - or enjoy a coffee with that chocolate cake, whichever is more your style.
And you might be surprised to learn that Afghan food has made an impression on the food scene here thanks to the city’s Afghan community, so can try a dish you may be unfamiliar with. All we need to add is that you should wear loose trousers, you’re going to need the extra room.

This was a fantastic tour. Lovely introduction to Bavarian food along with their culture and history.
Show moreBarbara ran a fantastic food and drink tour with a ton of information about local history and customs. All of the stops easily equated to a full dinner and the drinks were great on top of it. My wife and I had a not-so-great food tour in Zurich before so this was a breath of fresh air!
Show moreBob is a terrific host, very fun and knowledgeable about Munich and its history. The food portion of the tour was unlike other food tours we have been on, though. Instead of stopping in various restaurants for different bites and drinks, Bob brought most of the food and drink with him, and we sampled them in out of the way spots along the street. Still enjoyable, just unexpected.
Show moreLinus was a great guide and tailored the walking tour of Munich to our particular interests. I would highly recommend him to anybody. His English was excellent and his knowledge of Munich, it’s sites and history was exceptional.
Show moreMichelle was fantastic. She is a great communicator and was very accommodating about a slight meeting time change for our family’s walking tour. She has a deep and impressive understanding of Munich, Bavarian and German history. It is obvious she loves leading tours and she is one of the best I’ve had—she is engaging and sincere and not corny or artificial in trying to make connections with the group members which I really appreciated. Would absolutely book her again.
