Colorful markets, impossibly light chocolate mousse cakes and goulash galore.
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
With a local insider to show you what it really means to eat like a local in Budapest, you’ll feast your way around two of the most iconic central neighborhoods. At the Central Market, try a classic snack of lángos, fried dough topped with sour cream and cheese, and discover traditional ingredients and the key to all traditional Hungarian cuisine - paprika!
But as well as iconic dishes like pogácsa, the locals' favorite of savory pastries, your host will take you to eateries and places where you could try the dishes that many visitors don’t taste, like körözött, the quintessentially Hungarian dip made with sheep’s milk cheese, and somlói galuska, an indulgent dessert of three flavors of sponge cake, walnuts, vanilla cream and chocolate sauce.

Show moreKristzian met us at our hotel. After asking us what we were interested in doing, he decided that a tour of the Food Market was what we would do. As we walked to the market, he told us about the history of the area we were in. At the market, we toured the first floor filled with local foods and alcohol. On the second floor, we decided to try some traditional Hungarian dishes that were very good. We left the market and traveled by public transportation to a pastry shop where we had pastry and lemonade. We concluded the tour with Kristzian sharing additional information about his city.
Show moreKrisztián was very knowledgeable when discussing Hungary’s 20th century history of which we had many questions. He was kind, funny, and full of energy. We fully enjoyed our three hours with him.
