Drink, eat and experience the tradition of aperitivo at one of your host's favorite bars and join other locals partaking in this cultural ritual
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Like all good days in Bologna should end (or anywhere, for that matter), you’ll join one of our hosts to experience the Italian tradition of aperitivo, the art of enjoying a drink and a few plates of small nibbles as you muse over what was undoubtedly a day well spent. We know it was well spent because, well, you’re in Bologna. Just let us know if your style sounds more like a delicious buffet of Italian morsels and a zesty spritz in a swanky cocktail bar, or you think you feel like more of a relaxed affair where you bring your own nibbles to the table?
A cozy indoor bar loved by students and grandparents alike or an outdoor terrace that sees locals huddling together with their glasses of prosecco, even in winter? If you want to indulge in all manner of tasty bites from a table groaning under the weight of pasta, cured meats, and focaccia bread, your host knows just the spot, but if you feel like making your own aperitivo picnic from a nearby deli, there’s one bar which every single Bolognese local will tell you to visit - we’ll leave it up to your host to divulge the details! You could settle into one bar for a few hours, or flit between two - variety is the spice of life after all. What a dreamy way to end your day.

An absolutely incredible tour given by Gabriele! Walking around the city we got to experience so much of Bologna’s history. Gabriele was very kind and extremely knowledgeable. We had many laughs and amazing food. His recommendation for our dinner later was absolutely perfect and delicious. We couldn’t ask for a better way to be introduced to this lovely city. 10/10

Show moreWe had a wonderful tour of Bologna with Nicola in mid-May 2024. Nicola is a PhD student studying history, and my husband and I were history majors, so this was a great match for us. We had a wonderful tour of the major sights in Bologna's main square, as well as the amazing shields and crests at the Archiginnasio Library. The tour was less food-focused as it was on sights until the last part of the tour, which was fine with us; we had Bolognese street food with Nicola of Mortadella panini as well as Tigelli - with a special local delicacy thrown in, pig lard mixed with parm cheese - not an every day eat but it was super interesting and we were happy to try it. Nicola has an extensive list of Gelateria that he loves and we went to one that had "whipped cream" gelato - it was unbelievable. If you love history and want some local street food flavor thrown in, this is the tour for you. Grazie, Nicola!
