Kyoto is stunning! It's definitely a spot that needs to be on your bucket list. I loved my time in this gorgeous city, and I'm here to give you the lowdown on the best places to see. Discover Kyoto's timeless charm on a journey that takes you through some of my favorite breathtaking sights.
Guided by a local host, you'll experience the magic of this city beyond the surface, starting with one of its most picturesque streets: Shirakawa Lane. As you stroll along this quaint lane, you'll be mesmerized by the serene stream running beside it and the beautifully preserved traditional Japanese houses. You'll quickly see why Kyoto captures the hearts of everyone who visits – it's a picture-perfect start to your adventure.
Next, a short walk brings you to the Yasaka Shrine, one of Kyoto's most beloved spots. This stunning shrine, with over 1,350 years of history, is a must-see for its vibrant architecture, peaceful atmosphere, and breathtaking photo ops. The bright vermillion gate is a stunning backdrop to your memories. And if you're lucky enough to visit during Sakura season, the cherry blossoms will add an extra layer of beauty to your experience. It's an Instagram dreamland.
From there, it's time to take a break in Maruyama Park, where you'll be surrounded by the tranquility of one of Japan's most beautiful traditional gardens. This serene oasis in the heart of Kyoto offers a peaceful respite with its lush landscapes and seasonal beauty, whether it's the soft pink of cherry blossoms in spring or the vibrant colors of autumn leaves. Take a deep breath, soak in the atmosphere, and let your mind wander.
Next on your journey is the Kodaiji Temple, a special spot with a rich history. Established in 1606, this temple is renowned for its stunning gardens, which seem to encapsulate everything people love about traditional Japanese design. If you're visiting during Sakura season, you might even catch one of the magical cherry blossom light shows, which are an unforgettable sight. This temple, with its peaceful grounds and enchanting views, is sure to be one of the highlights of your Kyoto experience.
Finally, you'll make your way to the iconic Yasaka Pagoda, also known as Hōkan-ji. This ancient five-story pagoda stands tall amidst one of Kyoto's most beautiful neighborhoods, offering a perfect ending to your exploration. As you approach, the pagoda's striking silhouette against the skyline creates a scene straight out of a postcard. Be ready to snap some amazing photos from the outside, as you admire this symbol of Kyoto's enduring elegance – it's the perfect spot to reflect on the journey you've had.

Milo was great in giving us the tidbits of info that only a resident or historian would have. What we enjoyed the most was that we were able to visit so many places in a short period of time. I don't believe we could have done that on our own. Milo did exactly what we expected of a guide - show us around an unfamiliar city.
Show moreMilos was incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful, and even tailored the tour as we proceeded. Excellent tour, would highly recommend :)
Show moreMichael was a friendly and very knowledgeable guide. We thoroughly enjoyed the three hours wondering around the area and learning about the history as well as current happenings in this part of Kyoto. A few drinks together at the end was a memorable touch. Thanks Michael
Show moreMiki was a wonderful and cheerful host who provided us with valuable information about Japanese culture, restaurants, and sites. She was flexible and willing to adapt our schedule to meet our wishes and interests. We enjoyed some delicious food and learned about each temple and shrine we visited. Additionally, we explored shopping districts and food stands. I would highly recommend Miki as a tour guide.
Show moreWe are two retired couples from Hawaii . Our guide Cici was very personable and knowlegeable, with a warm and welcoming personality. We sent her some info before the tour about some physical limitations and she thoughtfully built some time in the tour to sit and rest. She took us on some of the "hidden gem" streets and knew about the architecture and other things we were interested in. We took a short tour - 3 hours - but felt that we got an excellent introduction to Kyoto. If we were younger and able to walk longer, a 5 hour tour would have been fun.
Show moreWe had a wonderful day with our guide Emi. Her English was superb and her knowledge of Kyoto absolutely brilliant. From temples of gold to geishas it was unforgettable and the sushi conveyor lunch a true hoghlight of our cruise. Never thought i would ever eat conger eel egg custard
