Discover Kyoto’s gems over a full, experience packed day. Tranquil Temples to foodie markets, wild monkeys and the mesmerizing geisha district.
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
This experience is the big one, it's packed full of incredible locations that show you the real gems of Kyoto, the unmissable and the maybe you would miss bits (if it weren't for your host). I’ve designed this experience to be a highlight of your trip and it contains all the places I love.
Start by stepping inside one of Kyoto’s most ancient Buddhist temples, an UNESCO world heritage site and part of the historic monuments of Kyoto. This location gives you a hint at the amazing stories it holds. Your host will make sure you cover all the important bits but honestly you could spend ages here.
You’re moving on though, Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka are waiting. A traditional shopping street filled with street food, souvenirs, wonderful sights and smells all set against a backdrop of aesthetic and traditional Japanese scenery.
It rewards early risers with impressive photo opportunities of serene, empty streets. But return later and then you experience the vibrant transformation as life fills the alleys with bustling activity. For me, the perfect blend of tranquility and liveliness.
Kinkaku-ji, also known as the Golden Pavilion. A stunning temple and one of Japan's most majestic sights; here you will immerse into the rich depths of Buddhist culture and Japanese history that is filled with ‘I never knew that’ facts.
Now head to Nishiki Market, watch out for your pockets in this market, not because of pickpockets, but because of the delicious street food waiting for you. Every stop here is mouthwatering. This is one of the city's oldest traditional markets, so don't miss out on exploring its rich offerings! Rely on your host to show you the best it has to offer.
The next spot might sound a little odd but trust me, it is really worth it. A bamboo forest, Arashiyama. You'll walk among tall green bamboo trees, feeling calm and peaceful. Take photos and enjoy the sounds of the bamboo swaying in the wind. A great place to relax and enjoy nature's beauty.
Lets move from nature to human creativity, Somekobo Yumeyusai Inc. Explore a traditional Japanese tea house and pottery studio while watching the skilled artisans crafting beautiful ceramics. You can even try your hand at pottery yourself - I just hope your attempts are better than mine were.
Afterward, enjoy a tea ceremony, savoring the flavors of Japanese matcha. It's a wonderful immersive experience, perfect for learning about Japanese culture and creating your own unique souvenirs to take home with you. This was an ultimate highlight for me and highly recommended.
Stop off at the Togetsukyo, a really impressive sight. A mostly wooden structure that provides a perfect frame for a photo in itself. If you have time I suggest renting a boat for a peaceful ride.
You’re stepping up the activity now, still in nature but with some company. Go and see the wild monkeys at Arashiyama Monkey Park. Feed the monkeys, watch them play and enjoy amazing views of Kyoto. It's a fun and memorable experience for animal lovers and nature enthusiasts.
I kept the best for the end. The Gion District, Kyoto renowned Geisha district where Geisha serve as upscale hostesses. If you're fortunate, you may catch a glimpse of them on their way to work. Gion is most enchanting at night, it has a very special type of energy I found captivating.
Alongside this neighborhood, you will find the Kamo River. Enjoy its beautiful views while sitting in one of the many restaurants surrounding it (with a refreshing drink in hand, of course!) - the perfect frame for replaying the epic moments of your day!
Trust me, my “all-in-on” experience is a must-do!

Show moreHello, my husband and I went to Kyoto and we had a spectacular guide, his name is Toshi. I highly recommend that if you can choose him, do so. He made our day the best. He took us to many places and gave us detailed explanations of each place. In the end, my husband and I decided to make an Orgel music box and he was with us throughout the entire process.
