Pimientos de Padron, ice-cold cañas and chorizo topped montaditos in a standing bar.
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Guidebooks are a bore; they can’t clink a glass of vermouth with you and they’re no fun to share a plate of pimientos de padron (seared peppers) with. But that’s exactly what your host will do as you flit between tapa and pintxos bars. Sip vermouth or cañas (the local measure of beer), and sample the favorite local dishes - like la bomba, croquettas of mashed potato stuffed with ground pork, and esqueixada, a zesty feast of raw salted cod, romesco sauce, tomatoes and black olives. They’ll take you only to authentic tapa bars where you’ll be rubbing shoulders with the locals and you might not be sure what some of the things on the menu are - although there probably won’t be a menu, so you’ll be ever happier your host is with you.

We were a little apprehensive about doing this as it is Unscripted (as the the tour suggests), but it ended up being planned out exactly to our tastes. Our guide took us around the El Born area, starting at the market with drinks and croquettes along with other foods to satisfy our Foodie tastes. We walked around El Born learning about the area, the culture and the traditions. We stopped at the original place for Los Pescatidos. We had Catalan dessert and Cava. I was quite impressed with this experience, especially not knowing what we were going to do and see. Would do it again.

Show morePerfect tour, so much amazing information.
Show moreMy husband and I flew in that morning and were excited to see the city with a local. Alan did not disappoint. He was so personable and knowledgeable, making everything extra extraordinary. I learned so much about Barcelona. Plus the tapas were out of this world. The chocolate shop was famous and we had it on our radar. This was money well spent! Job well done!!
Show moreFederico was great!! He told us all the Gaudi stories and took us to all the major Gaudi sites — it was a beautiful in depth first day in Barcelona!
Show moreIn a world where so few things are personalized and special, Annika delivered a most marvelous personalized tour. She guided my sister-in-law and I (only 2 of us!) through the mesmerizing choices of tapas and where to eat in this beautiful Barcelona city! She hosted us through restaurants and markets that we would not have seen otherwise. She spoke Spanish and English perfectly to get us exactly what we wanted even when we didn’t know we wanted it! Truly, one of the best food tours I have ever taken!
