A nation’s kitchen on the streets, gua bao and stinky tofu for the brave
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Three square meals a day is not a thing in Taipei - it’s all about pushing yourself here, and indulging in as many delicious dishes as you possibly can with your local Taipei host by your side.
Allow them to navigate you through the bustling streets of the city and deliver you straight to the doorsteps of the best markets and local eateries. They’ll encourage you to try various delicacies, some of which might be quite ominous-looking, but all are equally tasty, trust us!
Sample some beef noodles, pepper buns, flame-torched sausages, and soup dumplings. Are you brave enough for stinky tofu? We reckon you are.
Learn all about ingredients you never knew even existed and immerse yourself in this steamy world of culinary brilliance. Some modern apartments are built without kitchens because the nation’s kitchen is outside on the streets.
Now that’s confidence in their street food scene.

We went around with Green and explored the Shilin Night Market and the neighboring area. Green was very engaging and knowledgeable, and we learned a lot about the culture and cuisine of Taiwan. We tried many interesting bites and even explored local temples in the area. It was a memorable experience!
Show moreWe explored Taipei, Taiwan with our local guide Green who was very friendly and knowledgeable. We had a great time exploring both the cuisine and the culture of the city. Highly recommended!
Show moreYui was my City Unscripted tour guide in Taipei. She was a great listener, asked spot-on questions, and shared heaps of info. She made sure the tour was tailored just for me, which was tops. Yui chatted about the local food, how it's made, and the culture here in Taipei. She really got what I was after and made the tour exactly what I wanted. Yui gave me some bonza ideas for other things to do in Taipei, based on what she knew I was keen on. At the end, she took me to the train station and gave me clear directions to get back to my hotel – no worries there! I had a very good time with Yui, and I'm stoked I chose her as my guide. I'd definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a top-notch guide in Taipei.
