Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Hong Kong is breathtaking - from the hustle and bustle of the people to the lights sparkling 24/7. We love going to Hong Kong; it's like a natural energy boost. So get ready for an unforgettable Hong Kong adventure that mixes ancient traditions with cutting-edge cool, all led by a local host who knows all the hidden gems and our favorite spots to explore!
First up, step into the enchanting world of Man Mo Temple, a sacred space dedicated to the gods of literature and martial arts. This mid-19th-century marvel boasts a green tiled roof, ornate wood carvings, and vibrant red lacquered doors. Breathe in the unique scent of the giant hanging incense coils and offerings from devotees seeking divine blessings. Just outside, Hollywood Road awaits with its treasure trove of antique shops and art galleries – perfect for picking up quirky souvenirs and soaking in some local art vibes.
A short stroll away is PMQ, a trendy creative hub bursting with design studios, chic shops, and delightful restaurants. It's the ultimate spot to chill and dive into innovative local designs.
Next, head to the Western Market, where a colorful mix of shops offers everything from traditional Chinese fabrics to handmade crafts. The textiles here are a feast for the eyes, showcasing Hong Kong's rich cultural tapestry. Don't miss the market's striking red brick facade and elegant granite archways, rare gems of Edwardian architecture in the city. Then, jump on the tram for a scenic ride to your next destination, watching the vibrant cityscape zip by.
Arriving at Lin Heung Tea House, you'll be swept into a whirlwind of clattering dishes, lively chatter, and the sing-song calls of dim sum servers. This is Hong Kong's dining culture at its most dynamic! Indulge in an authentic Cantonese feast with dim sum classics like har gow (shrimp dumplings), siu mai (pork dumplings - our absolute favorite here), and lotus leaf rice, all served from traditional push carts. The tea house's charming wooden furniture, communal tables, and nostalgic decor transport you back to old Hong Kong.
Your next stop is Central Market, a historic landmark turned modern cultural hotspot. Originally built in 1939, this buzzing market has been stylishly revamped while keeping its old-school charm. Explore a kaleidoscope of food stalls, quirky shops, and vibrant event spaces. Check out the cool installations that capture Hong Kong's history and grab some tasty local snacks or unique souvenirs.
Finally, meander down Pottinger Street, famously known as Stone Slabs Street. This iconic street's distinctive granite steps have remained unchanged since the mid-19th century, offering a picturesque throwback to old-world Hong Kong. Named after the first Governor of Hong Kong, Henry Pottinger, this lively street is packed with market stalls and shops selling everything from costumes and accessories to traditional Chinese decorations. Immerse yourself in the bustling market life and uncover the street's fascinating stories with your local host by your side.
Throughout this epic day, your local host will ensure that you have a spectacular adventure through Hong Kong's rich history and dynamic culture. Whether you're hunting for hidden gems or eager to see the city's iconic landmarks, this journey promises a thrilling and unforgettable glimpse into the heart of Hong Kong. Show moreAlfred was extremely knowledgeable, passionate about Hong Kong and had researched our interests to enable us to enjoy a fantastic time with him travelling around this wonderful place.
Show moreOur guide was a transplanted Norwegian. Her English was wonderful, as was her knowledge of the places to visit. She customized the tour to our needs. We can’t eat like we did when we were in our 20s but still wanted to try everything (so we split things as required). Of particular note was the wonton soup in fish broth (very light).
Show moreWe had Dennis take us through the city and he was amazing. Speaks perfect English, is very knowledgeable about the the city. Took us to great places for food. And generally had a very relaxed friendly vibe. Given the chance I'd recommend you ask for him.
