What you’ll do

Paris is home to some of the world's most stunning architecture, and a lot of it is located in the churches that you'll find throughout the city. I love spending time just wandering through these majestic buildings and taking in the spectacular sights. So, I've created a little list of some of the most breathtaking churches in Paris for you to explore with a local host. Let's go!

Your first stop is the Church Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis, a stunning example of Flamenco Baroque architecture in the heart of the Marais district. Prepare to be awestruck by the soaring ceilings and intricate details. Don't miss the colossal pipe organ, a musical marvel that often fills the space with enchanting melodies. This historic church served as the literary backdrop for Victor Hugo's iconic novel, Les Misérables, where he united Marius and Cosette in matrimony. One of my favorite things here is the grandiose altar, which never fails to leave me speechless.

Just a short walk away lies the enchanting Church Saint-Louis en l'Ile. Despite being one of the smallest parishes in Paris, this architectural gem exudes elegance and tranquility. Its impressive 30-meter bell tower is a striking sight against the Parisian sky. As you approach, take a moment to appreciate the charming streets lined with quaint shops and inviting cafés.

Next, venture into the imposing Church of Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet. Step inside to discover a grand and mysterious interior adorned with intricate carvings and frescoes bathed in soft light. Marvel at the stunning stained glass windows, each a masterpiece depicting the lives of saints. Your host will bring these religious figures to life with captivating stories. Additionally, pay homage to the renowned artist Charles Le Brun, whose final resting place is marked by a magnificent funeral monument within the church. Le Brun, the first painter of Louis XIV and a founding member of the French Academy, left an indelible mark on French art and culture..

Now, discover the enchanting Saint-Étienne-du-Mont Church, nestled near the iconic Pantheon. This architectural gem represents a pivotal moment in French art history, bridging the gap between the Gothic and Renaissance eras. Step inside to marvel at the exquisite rood screen, a masterpiece of intricate stonework. Legend has it that touching the church steps brings good luck, so don't forget to make a wish! The church also houses precious relics of Saint Geneviève, once kept within the Pantheon.

Your final stop is the charming Church of Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre, one of the oldest in Paris. It's a cozy, intimate space with a fascinating history that dates back to the 12th century. The church is nestled in the Latin Quarter, just a stone's throw from the Seine. Inside, the atmosphere is hushed and reverent, with beautiful icons and a warm, welcoming feel. I love sitting on one of the wooden benches and imagining the centuries of worshipers who've passed through. It's a peaceful end to your experience, offering a moment of reflection and calm.

So, there you have it, my friend! Five impressive churches, each with its own story, beauty, and charm. I hope this adventure leaves you as enchanted by Paris as it does me every single time. Enjoy the journey, and make some unforgettable memories!

Please note that due to this being primarily a tour of the beautiful churches in Paris, we cannot guarantee entry to these premises all the time due to the churches being closed for maintanence and events.

One of my goals in staying in The Marais was to experience Jewish culture in the area. Elli did such a great job with this, weaving it into the larger history of the neighborhood and showing us places we would not have found on our own.

Our guide met us at the Gare du Nord and took us all over the city. Hristo knows the city like the back of his hand and has amazing insights into its history. I would highly recommend City Unscripted for any opportunity to get to know the real Paris.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about my amazing tour with Isabel yesterday. We talked several times in advance of the trip to incorporate my ideas and priorities and her recommendations to put together the perfect itinerary. We hit a few highlights of the city and some things I really wanted to see, like Notre Dame, while also spending a lot of time off the tourist path to find the hidden gems within the city. We strolled through most of the districts, exploring libraries and books, shops, and churches and bakeries and markets. We nibbled on crêpes and pretzels and sampled nougets and sugared fruits, and hot cocoa and did a little shopping. She showed me hidden courtyards and beautiful, quaint, alleyways with mosaic tiles and every imaginable architectural style within the city. We strolled and chatted like friends and just shared the most wonderful day together. It was perfection.

Viator is hit or miss and not always reliable, but their subcontract to City Unscripted worked out well this time. Roffy from "City Unscripted" was an excellent guide and spent six hours with my nephew and I showing us around Paris including some of the more well known land marks along with some hidden "surprises". There were several places we went to that would never have been on our list given this was our first time in Paris so in my opinion, this tour was worth every cent to get a local perspective and see some lesser known things. Having a guide with a set route and plan also made the day much more efficient and we were able to pack in a lot. Roffy was an excellent guide. She is very knowledgeable and was fun to hang out with and the time flew by! I would highly recommend this tour (especially for a first trip to Paris)!

We did a 4-hour walking tour with Florencia, who was friendly, knowledgeable, and fantastic! She customized our tour to the details we sent ahead of time as well as based on our interests that day. She was able to answer all the questions we asked and even made sure she got us to the restaurant we had reservations at, at the end of the tour. We did this on our first day in Paris, and it was SUPER helpful in seeing the major sights and orienting us to the city. We loved it!

We took a day trip to Paris from London on our Honeymoon. We met the guide at Gare du Nord. He took us all over the city. Hristo was able to answer all of our questions. He has a deep and rich knowledge of the city. I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to have the trip of your life.
