Tickled pink Parks, picnics, and pink flowers Sakura by the seaside
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
As March draws to a close and the famous cherry blossoms are newly blooming, Japan’s festive mood is infectious. With a local host leading you down sakura-lined paths, shop for savory snacks and pastel pink mochi – Japanese confections – at the Fukuoka Castle Sakura Festival in Maizuru Park, or head to a konbini supermarket and grab snacks for your makeshift picnic.
Head to one of Fukuoka’s most famous cherry blossom viewing spots like Nishi Park, where hundreds of families gather for hanami picnics under 1,300 trees, or, for an extra-memorable experience, take a 30-minute train ride to Uminonakamichi Seaside Park for a stroll under cherry blossom tunnels, views of multi-colored spring flower gardens, and a fresh ocean breeze.

Eli made the tour fun and personal giving multiple suggestions of her favorite places and showing us both the bright lights and hidden gems of Fukuoka. She made an in depth schedule and was able to change it on the fly depending on our interests. My wife and I laughed constantly throughout the tour with Eli which made the experience completely worth it. Felt like hanging with a friend.
Show moreWe made a last-minute request for a food tour in Fukuoka in the evening and it was our good fortune that Bruce was available to take us for a tour the next afternoon. The tour was a great introduction to the food culture of the city. While the yatai tour is an evening experience, he was able to send us to one of his favourite yatai stalls where Mariko-san took care of us, introducing us to local seafood tempura.
Show moreEli was friendly and genuine. She showed us great spots so we got the flavor of Fukuoka. She tailored the itinerary very well to our tastes and abilities. She showed flexibility to make revisions as needed. We ate at a local fish market restaurant, ate delicious pastries, saw shrines and learned their history, learned about local customs and ceremonies and wandered through all sorts of shopping areas. Highly recommend this tour especially if your time is limited in Fukuoka.
Show moreIt was a bit difficult to find the guide as we were supposed to meet at the huge Hakata station. But we managed and the guided tour through the streets of Fukuoka was marked by professional competence and good places outside the usual tourist spots. The guide could tell us a lot about the places we visited and was very pleasant company. A really good tour that can definitely be recommended.
Show moreThe trip through the streets of Fukuoka and secret free space was exactly what we had been looking for. We were led around to different places that were not crowded with tourists and found places we would never have found on our own. A really rewarding and complete trip, with a pleasant and competent guide. Luis was the perfect guide.
Show moreWe had a wonderful day exploring Fukuoka. Bruce showed us places nearby to our hotel. We could ask questions and learn about history, culture. Bruce showed us good places to eat. After an authentic Japanese lunch we got on the train n visited a park. Walking through the hundreds of cherry blossom trees was like being in a fairytale…just magical. I will never forget my first day in Japan. A truely amazing experience.
