So much sake, so little time Three buzzy, boozy, brilliant hours in Sapporo
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
To truly appreciate Hokkaido culture, sake must be sampled – we don’t make the rules! So really, it would be wrong not to join a local insider in tasting some of the beverages that put Hokkaido on the map. You’ll sip on Kokushi Muso, one of Hokkaido’s most famous brands of sake, trying everything from Daiginjo-shu (high-quality sake) to seasonal, limited edition brews. At a local izakaya, try the iconic Chitosetsuru sake from the 150-year-old Nippon Seishu Brewery between bites of crispy yakitori (chicken skewers), or stock up on your own personal stash at the Chitosetsuru Sake Museum – part museum, part tasting room and part store (it even sells sake ice-cream) Need a break from sake? Hokkaido is also famous for its smooth, smoky whiskey.

Show moreEssentially the best tour of my life. Karen welcomed us to some local spots and made us feel right at home, where we ate and drank all night. We ended up meeting a number of locals and had an absolutely amazing night. There literally is no better tour-guide than Karen.
Show moreThis experience was well worth the investment. We tried several different sakes and had meaningful conversations as well.
Show moreThere will be a Japanese tour guide who will take you to a local shop for wine tasting, but it’s just about drinking, and there isn’t much introduction.
Show moreThe tour was really great! Ryuki was wonderful and easy to talk to. We ate and drank a lot of delicious food and sake. I'd definitely recommend this tour for solo travelers like me.
Show moreThe tour guide Emi is very attentive and kind, and the local wine she introduces is also very good. Rice wine knowledge is also interesting. The recommended authentic oyster bar is also delicious.
