Travelers having fun right now!
On my first day in Tokyo I was especially interested in markets, food and shrines. Thanks to Chiara, we did all three. She is extremely knowledgeable about Japanese food, and happy to explain ingredients, flavors, and customs. We did a lot of walking -- which was great -- and we navigated the complex but efficient Tokyo subway system. In all, a perfect first day in a magnificent city.

The one-day trip was awesome. We love to have Kenji as our tour guide. He is very kind and a good photographer. We'd like to have him for our future trip, next time.

We had Robert as our guide and he was excellent. He was able to answer every question we had and we had an amazing time. We saw a few touristic spots we wanted to see but then Robert also showed us some hidden gems. We loved it and will book it for the next time in Tokyo as well.

Yuko completely customized our tour to focus on our area of interest. She gave us great historical insights and cultural ones too. She took us to a very authentic stand up Sake bar and helped us to sample two kinds of Sake. She also provided us with very practical help around other sights to see and how to navigate the very confusing subway, metro, train situation.

Tokyo is a land of contrasts that sprawls and stretches as far as the eye can see. A local tour of Tokyo reveals many different worlds, with some neighborhoods reflecting the wood-built Japan of old and others so futuristic they could have been dreamt up in a sci-fi series. On our personalized tours of Tokyo, you’ll experience this balance between old and new in Japan’s spectacular capital. From ancient temples and sumo stadiums to colorful subcultures and neon-lit nightlife, the most iconic attractions and the best things to do in Tokyo span centuries – but our tailor-made city tours of Tokyo allow you to see the city through a local lens. Some of the most memorable experiences during a private tour of Tokyo are the pastimes of the people who call it home. On your walking tour of Tokyo, you’ll see the top attractions – but you’ll also blend in with the locals as you jostle through traditional markets, explore the city’s quirky underbelly, and slurp ramen at unpretentious restaurants hidden down alleys. A private tour with City Unscripted won’t get you caught in a Tokyo tourist trap – tell us what your dream itinerary looks like, and we’ll make it happen!
Tokyo – where do we even start? This city is like a multi-layered cake, and each slice offers a different flavor. One moment you're standing amidst the ultra-modern skyscrapers, neon lights reflecting off the glass, and the next, you're on one of our Tokyo walking tours, strolling through quiet alleyways where tradition reigns supreme. It's a city where ancient temples sit comfortably next to tech hubs and where kimono-clad folks walk side-by-side with edgy fashionistas.
Now, let's be real. One of the things to know before visiting Tokyo is that to even begin uncovering its layers, you'd need at least 3 days. And that's just scratching the surface. With so much depth and diversity, booking one of our Tokyo tours isn't just a good idea – it's a no-brainer. Without the right Tokyo tour guide services, you might walk past a hidden gem or miss out on a street food stall that serves the best takoyaki you'd ever taste. Tokyo has these nuances, these little secrets, that make it so darn unique and addictive. Trust me, there's no better way to ensure you catch all those subtle details that make Tokyo, well, Tokyo.
First off, our Tokyo private tours, are all about keeping it real. There's a lot of chatter about "authentic experiences" and "hidden gems", but when it comes to tours Tokyo often presents, not everyone truly delivers. We stand out because we're committed to giving you that genuine Tokyo vibe. How? By ditching the script! Every single tour is tailored to your whims and wishes. Whether you're on a mission to find the most mouth-watering ramen or you're drawn to Tokyo's eclectic underground art scene, your City Unscripted tour guide in Tokyo has got you covered.
Here's the cherry on top: our local guides. Picture this – roaming the streets of Tokyo with a friend, a companion who's genuinely in love with their city and excited to show you their cherished spots without any ulterior motives. This isn’t just any Tokyo experience, it’s the City Unscripted experience. We pair you up with a Tokyo tour guide who totally gets what you're about. No formal lectures or tedious explanations – think of it more like two buddies on a Tokyo adventure.
Speaking of recommendations, we don't do backroom deals with cafes or restaurants. When your guide points you to a tucked-away café or a lively izakaya, it’s from the heart – not a business arrangement. And if you're wondering about the best area to stay in Tokyo for first-time visit, our guides have insights on that too, ensuring you get the most from your Tokyo adventure right from the start!
Tokyo is vast, intricate, and brimming with layers waiting to be explored. Navigating it with someone who's got the insider knowledge? Priceless.
Have you ever tried to find your way out of a labyrinth? Well, Tokyo can sometimes feel like one, especially if you’re navigating it on your own. Let’s paint a picture here: Shinjuku Station, for instance, boasts over 200 exits. Yes, you read that right! And that’s just one station in this vast metropolis.
Now, think about the countless amazing restaurants and experiences that Tokyo offers, many of which are located above ground or tucked in the coziest corners of buildings. If you can't read Japanese, there's a chance you'll stroll right past a culinary experience of a lifetime or a shop that sells just the thing you've been dreaming of. And while Tokyo is an international hub, English isn't as widely spoken as you might think, which can sometimes lead to delightful misadventures or, let’s be real, missed opportunities.
The list of things to do in Tokyo can be overwhelming. From street food in Tokyo that promises to tantalize your taste buds, cultural dives into its rich history, to the dazzling array of things to do in Tokyo at night, trying to distill which experiences to prioritize can take longer than your actual trip!
This is where personal tours in Tokyo, like the ones City Unscripted offers, truly shine. Imagine having a friend in Tokyo – someone who knows the ins and outs, the nooks and crannies, the little practicalities that can transform your trip from good to unforgettable. Tokyo is vast, vibrant, and brimming with hidden gems. With our private tours in Tokyo, you're not just another tourist – you're an explorer with a local buddy by your side.
With so many reasons to visit Tokyo, you're in for a treat. The city bursts with unique Tokyo experiences, and choosing the best area to stay in Tokyo for a first-time visit can be a game-changer for your trip. But let's tackle the big question: how long should you really spend to capture the city's heart?
If you only have 24 hours in Tokyo, this metropolis will dazzle you! It's like grabbing a quick bite of sushi from the city's famed Tsukiji Outer Market - delicious, but leaving you wanting a fuller feast. Within a day, you'll dance to Tokyo's electrifying rhythm, hit some iconic sights, and if you're lucky, stumble upon a few of those elusive Tokyo hidden gems. But trust me, to dive deep into Tokyo’s multi-faceted soul, you're merely at the starting line.
Got a luxurious 3 days up your sleeve? Now you're in business. With 3 days in Tokyo, tours we recommend will have you navigating between the city's iconic neon-lit streets and serene temple grounds. Dive deep into the juxtaposition of Tokyo's bustling city life and its tranquil pockets of heritage. And for a more grounded experience? Try one of the walking tours Tokyo has to offer. They'll take you through charming backstreets and hidden alleyways, letting you savor the city's pulse. Three days give you a richer palette to paint your Tokyo memories.
Navigating the landscape of Tokyo daily tours can feel as complex as traversing the city's winding streets. So, let's break it down in terms of dollars and sense.
Starting with group tours: they are, without a doubt, the budget-friendly choice. Think of them as the conveyor belt sushi of the tour world – efficient, effective, and they get the job done. Typically, you might spend around $20 to $50 for these. While they'll follow the well-trodden tourist paths and might lack that genuine 'Tokyo feel,' they're an excellent pick if you're looking to save some yen and enjoy meeting fellow travelers.
Then there's the upscale offering of private tours Tokyo provides. Prices here can vary considerably, usually starting from $100 and going upwards to $500 or even more. Remember, not all private tours are crafted equally. Many follow a standard itinerary, offering just a sprinkle of flexibility. But if you're yearning for an authentic experience, then a Tokyo walking tour with us might just be your cup of matcha.
Wondering how much is a tour guide in Tokyo? Our tours are competitively priced at around $140 per person for a half-day tour, but what sets us apart is the value we deliver. It's more about the experience than the price tag. Our Tokyo tours by locals are fully tailored to your wishes. With City Unscripted, you're not just booking a tour; you're securing an experience, a day out with a new friend passionate about their city. Our hosts love what they do, which means they’re being their authentic selves, giving you a genuine glimpse of Tokyo. There are no preset Tokyo tour packages here; it's all about crafting moments you'll treasure.
To truly experience Tokyo's heartbeat, whether it's the serene spring in Tokyo or the vibrant energy of Tokyo in summer, you need to walk its streets with someone who calls it home. That's where having a City Unscripted tour guide in Tokyo steps in.
Sure, you could hop on a typical tourist trail, but imagine indulging in unique Tokyo food tours, tailored to you and led by someone who's known these flavors since childhood. Or experiencing Tokyo in winter with a guide who knows the coziest spots to warm up? Our local guides adore their city, and there's nothing they love more than sharing its secrets, stories, and soul with you.
Going local isn't just about getting a richer, more authentic experience though. It's also a more sustainable way to explore. By steering clear of those jam-packed tourist spots, you're helping to reduce the wear and tear on Tokyo's most popular sights. Plus, there's the added bonus of supporting local businesses when your guide takes you to their favorite hole-in-the-wall eatery or quaint boutique shop.
With City Unscripted, you're not just getting any old Tokyo day tours – you're getting a friend in the city. Someone who's eager to let you in on the city's best-kept secrets, ensuring you connect deeply with the heart, culture, and pulse of this incredible metropolis. Our passion? Helping you discover new facets of the world, inspiring that lifelong wanderlust, and ensuring every trip, be it during the cherry blossoms of spring or the balmy nights of summer, is filled with authentic, immersive moments that'll stay with you forever.
If you're hopping on a bus or settling into a private car to tour Tokyo, you're likely missing out on half of the city's magic. There's a richness to Tokyo that's best felt up close, where the intricate details, unexpected smells, and ambient sounds become part of your journey. Every hidden alley, every sidewalk vendor, and every burst of laughter from a nearby cafe adds to the vibrant tapestry of the city. Those are the moments and memories you simply can't catch from behind a window.
While Tokyo bicycle tours have their charm and offer a faster pace to cover more ground, nothing beats the authenticity and depth of discovery that walking provides. On foot, it's easier to pivot into a curious-looking shop, engage with locals, or spontaneously decide to try that street food that smells too good to pass up.
When you're walking, you're in the prime position to discover hidden gems Tokyo has sprinkled all over. And with the best private tour guide Tokyo can offer, every step becomes an adventure, every corner turned into a story. Plus, let's not forget the green badge you get for choosing the sustainable path.

And if you can't make up your mind, there's always the option of Tokyo multi day tours to delve even deeper. And the beauty? Each tour feels like it's been handpicked just for you.

Tokyo is a thrilling blend of the traditional and the avant-garde, and with our tours in Tokyo, you're set for an authentic experience. Before we hit the ground running, there's just a tiny bit of prep to ensure your adventure is as personalized as it gets.
First things first: the questionnaire. We know, filling out forms isn't the most exciting part of travel planning, but trust us on this. The more you share about your interests, likes, and curiosities, the better equipped your host will be to tailor the tour to your whims.
Even if you’ve skimmed through a Tokyo tour guidebook or have had a brief chat with someone who offers Tokyo English-speaking tour guide services, your experience with us is meant to be distinct. We’re not just about showing you the sights; we're about connecting you with Tokyo in a way that feels right for you.
Beyond the questionnaire, it might be handy to get familiar with Tokyo’s transport system, maybe pick up a few basic Japanese phrases (a simple "arigatou" goes a long way!), and check the seasonal weather forecast so you can pack accordingly.
With all that said, gear up for one of the best Tokyo tours with City Unscripted. Tokyo awaits, and we can't wait to explore it with you!
