Naples: The Ultimate Food Capital of Italy

Naples is such a special city for many reasons and one of them is definitely the food scene. Can this be considered the food capital of Italy? I’m not sure how bold of a statement that is but, according to me, it should be. Here are my absolute favorite food experiences to have in Naples.

Eat pizza margherita at the restaurant where it was invented 

You might know that pizza margherita was invented in Naples, but did you know that you can still eat it at the restaurant where the first pizza margherita was ever made? That restaurant is called Pizzeria Brandi and it’s still open in downtown Naples.

When you enter that unique restaurant, you can actually see the kitchen where the staff makes those amazingly delicious pizzas. The typically italian oven and the smell that fills up that place is just unforgettable. I’ve had many pizzas throughout my lifetime but let me tell you: the pizza margherita at Pizzeria Brandi was the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life. 

Go to the most unique restaurant in Naples

If you’re looking for a truly unforgettable experience in Naples, you really shouldn’t miss this restaurant. It’s called Trattoria da Nennella and you will probably not be able to distinguish whether you are at a restaurant or a party.

Once you arrive, you’ll be put on a waiting list (yes, there is always a line) and then you just need to wait for your turn, which you will know has come when you hear your name being called up by a lively member of the staff on a microphone. Once you go in, you’ll see what I mean by the feeling of being at a party. In this restaurant, the purpose is not only eating delicious italian food - there’s way more to this experience than yummy pasta.

The staff keeps singing while working and once in a while, you might even see a random customer being picked up and held up in the air to the sound of lively music. Have you ever seen that happen in any restaurant? It was certainly a first for me and Trattoria da Nennella will likely forever stay with me as the most unforgettable restaurant I’ve ever been to. 

Try one of the most famous desserts in Naples

There are so many delicious desserts to try in Naples and delizia al limone is definitely one of them. This lemon dessert is perfect for anyone looking for a refreshing treat while walking in the heat of Naples and it’s everyone in the city center. Naples is not the place to worry about ending up buying bad food, so go for any delizia al limone that you see and it will be delicious for sure!
