Why not try something unique and wear a Kimono for the day while in Tokyo? Great way to experience the local culture & spend time with the family
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Get ready for an exciting and fun-filled day exploring Asakusa with your knowledgeable local host! They’ll guide you through some incredible experiences that highlight the charm and culture of this vibrant part of Tokyo. Let’s dive into what you can expect on this unforgettable adventure.
You’ll start your journey at the iconic Asakusa Landmark. As you gather here with your host, you’ll immediately feel the buzz of the area – a perfect blend of old and new Tokyo. The towering Tokyo Skytree in the background and the Asahi Beer Tower and the Sumida River right in front of you set the scene perfectly. It’s worth snapping a photo here to capture the essence of Asakusa right at the start.
Next, your host will lead you to Kimono Miyabi, where you’ll get to dress in traditional kimonos. This experience is a personal favorite of mine because it feels like stepping back in time. The friendly staff will help you choose a kimono with bold colors and intricate designs – these look fantastic in photos! They’ll also tie the obi (that’s the fancy belt) just right and can even style your hair if you want to go all out. Wearing a kimono around Asakusa makes you feel like a local celebrity with all the admiring glances. It’s a bucket list moment.
Dressed in your beautiful kimono, you’ll stroll through the Kaminarimon gate and head towards Sensoji Temple. The giant red lantern at the gate is breathtaking and a must-see. As you walk down Nakamise-dori, the street leading to the temple, you’ll be surrounded by stalls selling traditional snacks and souvenirs. Your host will point out the best spots and might introduce you to some tasty treats like freshly made ningyo-yaki – little sponge cakes filled with sweet red bean paste. They’re delicious and a perfect snack as you explore.
The bustling atmosphere combined with the historic charm makes this walk truly special. At Sensoji Temple, take a moment to soak in the serene beauty. The temple grounds are stunning, and the smell of incense adds to the spiritual vibe. Don’t forget to draw a fortune slip – it’s a fun tradition, and your host can help explain what your fortune means.
After exploring the temple, it’s time for some traditional Japanese fun with golden fish scooping at Asakusa Kingyo. This game is a blast and surprisingly challenging. Using a small paper scoop, you’ll try to catch as many goldfish as you can before the paper tears. Your host will share tips on how to be gentle with the scoop and keep a steady hand. It’s harder than it looks, but that’s part of the fun! Watching everyone’s concentration and hearing the cheers of success (or groans of frustration) adds to the nostalgic feel of this place, reminiscent of old-school Japanese festivals.
By now, you’ll have worked up quite an appetite, so your host will take you to Asakusa Yokocho for lunch. This spot is amazing for sampling a variety of Japanese foods. From sushi to tempura, you’ll find all your favorites here. The atmosphere is casual and lively, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal together. Your host will encourage you to try a bit of everything – the grilled skewers (yakitori) are particularly tasty. The communal vibe of Asakusa Yokocho is perfect for sharing dishes and enjoying good conversation. Don’t miss the chance to try some sake or a local beer; it pairs perfectly with the food.
As you wrap up your lunch and reflect on the day, you’ll realize how much you’ve experienced in just a few hours. Each stop on this experience offers a unique glimpse into Tokyo’s rich culture and history, all made more special by your knowledgeable host’s insights and stories. From the iconic landmarks and traditional activities to the delicious food, Asakusa is a place that never fails to charm and delight.
Enjoy every moment of this incredible adventure – it’s going to be a day full of great food, fun discoveries, and unforgettable memories! Oh and don’t forget to give the Kimono back.

Amazing experience with Edo!!I joined Kimono tour with my 1year old son. I was worried about wearing Kimono with a little kid but with Edo's help, we enjoyed so much! He knows Asakusa and Japanese history so well so it was a great opportunity for us to know more about Japan. Edo is really friendly and happy guys so I really recommend to have a tour with Him! Thanks Edosan!

Show moreWe really enjoyed spending the day with Mari who showed us around Tokyo. She was flexible and knowledgeable and really wanted us to have a good time. One of the best things we did was have lunch at a department store restaurant because we told her what we wanted and that we wanted to go somewhere that was not a tourist restaurant. She brought us to this restaurant in a department store that was packed with all locals and it was one of our favorite things we did. Her thinking outside the box made the day and created the experience for us. I would highly recommend her services.

Show moreMomoko greeted us at the hotel and was very approachable and friendly. Our plan for our tine with Momoko was discussed and agreed. Momoko’s knowledge is extensive and she quickly established what my husband and I would be interested in to discover. Momoko took us to several different areas that included Shrines, Temples and to see the Sakura. Momoko answered all questions we asked and offered more of her knowledge throughout our tine with her. We felt that we could easily spent a few days with Momoko to experience Japan. A heartfelt thank you to Momoko for showing us a taste of her country.
