Experience an old Hong Kong village that is full of my favorite hidden gems! Escape the concrete jungle of Hong Kong and escape to the coastline.
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Imagine this: you step off the ferry onto the charming island of Cheung Chau, ready for a day of adventure with your talented local host. The sun is shining, the sea breeze is refreshing, and you’re about to explore some of the most intriguing spots this island has to offer. Let’s dive into your exciting journey!
Your adventure kicks off at Cheung Chau Main Street, a vibrant hub of activity. Picture yourself strolling down this bustling street, filled with colorful fruit stalls, quirky souvenir shops, and the mouth-watering aroma of freshly baked buns and grilled seafood. Your host will guide you through the best spots and share stories about the local culture and history.
Make sure to try the famous Cheung Chau fish balls. (If fish isn't your thing, there are a lot of other choices, I'm sure you’ll find something you’ll like with te help of your host). They’re a local delicacy and incredibly tasty. As you wander down the street, keep an eye out for the quirky street art – it adds a fun, artsy vibe to the place.Next, you’ll head to Yuk Hui Temple, also known as Pak Tai Temple. This serene oasis is dedicated to Pak Tai, the God of the Sea. The temple’s intricate carvings and vibrant decorations are a feast for the eyes. Your host will share fascinating insights about the temple’s history and its significance to the local community.
Take a moment to admire the temple’s roof – the dragons and other mythical creatures are incredibly detailed. The tranquility of the temple grounds is something I love; it’s a great place to take a breather and soak in the spiritual atmosphere.
Your next stop is the Love Lock Wall, a colorful and whimsical spot perfect for couples. People come here to attach locks with their names or messages, symbolizing their everlasting love. The wall is a burst of color and charm, making it a delightful addition to our tour. Will you add one?
Even if you’re not here with a significant other, it’s fun to read some of the messages on the locks. Some are sweet, some are funny, and some are downright poetic. It’s a lovely spot for a quick photo op!
After the Love Lock Wall, you’ll head to Tung Wan Beach. Imagine sinking your toes into the soft sand and feeling the gentle waves lap at your feet. This beach is a local favorite, perfect for relaxing and unwinding. Your host might even share some local legends about the beach.
Don’t forget your swimsuit if you want to take a dip. I love just sitting on the sand and watching the world go by. The beach is a great spot to chill out and enjoy the natural beauty of Cheung Chau.
Next, you’re off to the Cheung Chau Mini Great Wall, a hiking trail offering some of the best views on the island. The path winds along the coastline, giving you stunning views of the sea and rugged cliffs. Your host will lead the way, pointing out interesting landmarks and sharing local lore.
Bring a camera – the views are picture-perfect. I love this hike because it’s not too strenuous but still offers a great sense of adventure. Plus, the fresh sea breeze is incredibly refreshing.
Your adventure continues with a visit to Cheung Po Tsai Cave. Named after the famous pirate Cheung Po Tsai, who supposedly used it as a hideout, this cave is a cool, dark retreat from the sun. Your host will share thrilling tales of the pirate’s exploits and the cave’s history.
Personal tip: Watch your head and take a flashlight – it’s pretty dark in there! Exploring the cave is like stepping back in time. I always imagine what it must have been like for pirates hiding out here with their treasure.
You’ll wrap up your experience at Tin Hau Temple, dedicated to the Goddess of the Sea. This temple is another beautiful example of traditional Chinese architecture and a significant cultural landmark on the island. Your host will share stories about Tin Hau and her importance to the local fishing communities.
Check out the intricate details on the temple’s walls and statues. The craftsmanship is incredible. I love ending the day here because it’s a serene and beautiful spot, perfect for some quiet contemplation before heading back.
This experience is a perfect mix of iconic landmarks, hidden gems, and local insights. With your host guiding you, you’ll get a true taste of Cheung Chau’s unique charm. Enjoy every moment, and don’t forget to take lots of photos – you’ll want to remember this adventure!

Benny lead a wonderful tour of Kowloon's food scene and was very knowledgeable. My husband and I really enjoyed this tour.
Show moreI had to stop for 8 hours in Hong Kong for layover and I decided to take a tour with my guide Donald. It was a great experience walking in Hong Kong, I will definitely recommend it.
Show moreWe were met by Bertha Chan at our hotel and did an 8 hour tour. She was extremely knowledgeable and very flexible in her plans to accommodate my wife who had recently broken her toe, so was unable to complete long walks. We covered all the key areas of Hong kong and she planned the itinerary to ensure we missed all the peak queuing times and we used all methods of public transport to minimise walking times. In addition she took us to some amazing local eateries and we sampled all kinds of local cuisine. We felt very immersed in the local culture.
Show moreWe had a wonderful time with Wendy as our guide around Hong Kong on our first night. Not only did we get to try some amazing foods we also got to see some local sights along the way. Wendy would have kept taking us to try more foods but we were so full we had to throw in the towel. Would definitely recommend this tour if you're ever in HK.
Show moreDaniel spent an eventful 8 hours with me on an active weekend. We first hiked the famous Dragons Back circuit which was simply fantastic. Daniel is an active hiker and his knowledge of the trail elevated the experience. We later spent time exploring Hollywood Street and the hidden alleyways in Hong Kong, showcasing amazing street art. Our day concluded with a visit to Kowloon and walking the night market and other highlights. Daniel has my highest recommendation as an expert guide to Hong Kong. He is highly professional, communicates promptly and closely works with his clients to ensure that their expectations are exceeded.
Show moreIt was a wonderful tour. Pinky was a great guide and showed us many of the Kowloon markets and two very nice places to eat.
