The local food was amazing. We had the BEST focaccia bread! We were able to experience food in North Beach (Italian) and Chinatown. Our tour guide, Maria, was so knowledgeable about the area and knew the people in the restaurants we went to.

We asked for an early food tour and Maria was able to take us to some great places! She was very knowledgeable about culture, history, and food. She was born in San Francisco so she knew many of the people where we stopped. We walked from our hotel (a few blocks from Fisherman's Wharf) to North Beach (Italian) and Chinatown. Our first stop was fresh ground coffee- we didn't get any to drink as not available. Then to Italian bakery. We had great coffee and sweets! She explained sites along the way and pointed out great places to each lunch and supper. She bought us some things to eat later at the bakery. We had the BEST fresh focaccia bread!!!! Then to Chinatown. It was so unique to walk all the fresh markets. She loaded us up with some food from a local restaurant. We saw the ladies making fortune cookies. Then we went to another local restaurant to eat some lunch. It was delicious!! The tour ended here and we walk back to hotel by ourselves. It is important that you can walk long distances if you do this tour.
