I have now visited Budapest 3 times, and it has become one of my favorite cities in Europe. the vibrant capital of Hungary is full of amazing bars & restaurants, history, and of course incredible thermal baths. With its stunning architecture, plethora of activities, and lively atmosphere, 48 hours in Budapest will only leave you wanting more. However, if you have only 2 days on your hand here is how I would spend it…
Day 1
On day one, we are going to kick-start the trip by exploring Buda Castle District. Here you can marvel at the grandeur of Buda Castle and take in panoramic views of the city from Fisherman's Bastion. Don’t miss Matthias Church, known for its intricate Gothic architecture.
We are then heading to try some local Hungarian Cuisine Satisfy your hunger with some traditional Hungarian cuisine. Head to a local eatery and indulge in goulash and a chimney cake for dessert. I’m vegan so I went to Kosmoz Vegan Restaurant and I would 100% recommend to those who are meat-free or not!
After filling up on a tasty lunch, it is time to set sail on a Danube River cruise for a leisurely afternoon. Admire Budapest’s iconic landmarks, including the Parliament Building, Chain Bridge, and Margaret Island as you glide along the picturesque river.
After stepping back onto land, it’s time to hit up the Ruin Bars in the Jewish Quarter. This is the best place for a lively night out and Szimpla Kert is a must-visit, with its quirky decor and amazing atmosphere.
Day 2
You might be feeling a little worse for wear the next day after visiting the ruin bars, so it’s time to do my favorite experience in Budapest: The Thermal Baths. Here you can relax and rejuvenate at one of Budapest’s renowned thermal baths. I would recommend the Széchenyi Thermal Baths or Rudas Thermal Baths for a quieter experience.
In the afternoon, we are going to head to Heroes' Square, a historic square adorned with statues of Hungarian leaders. From there, stroll through City Park and visit Vajdahunyad Castle, a fairytale-like structure. Before finishing the evening dining with a view. Either choose a restaurant with a view of the city skyline, such as Fisherman’s Bastion or the rooftop bar at Aria Hotel Budapest or grab some street food for those on a budget and enjoy it by the river.
I loved Budapest and so will you. So pack your bags and get ready for an unforgettable adventure in the heart of Hungary!
